THE REASON I JUMP wins Audience Award, Impact Award at VIFF

THE REASON I JUMP continues its successful global festival run, receiving the Impact Award and the Audience Award for the Most Popular International Documentary at Vancouver International Film Festival.

Director Jerry Rothwell accepted the Audience Award with a video message in the virtual ceremony on 7th October 2020.

Voted for and awarded directly by the audiences at VIFF, the Audience Award presents a special recognition to the filmmakers and speaks to the strong impression the title left on viewers.

Based on the bestselling book by Naoki Higashida, THE REASON I JUMP blends Higashida’s revelatory insights into autism, written when he was just 13, with intimate portraits of five remarkable young people.  Through evocative sound design and photography, the feature documentary opens a window into an intense and overwhelming, but often joyful, sensory universe, creating an immersive cinematic exploration of neurodiversity.

THE REASON I JUMP was awarded the Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and has since screened at HotDocs, SXSW, CPH:DOX, and AFI Docs among others. The UK premiere of the film is set for 9th October 2020 at BFI London Film Festival.

“A work of cinematic alchemy.” – The Hollywood Reporter
