THE REASON I JUMP wins Best Documentary and Best Sound at BIFA

We are incredibly excited to share that THE REASON I JUMP has been awarded with two British Independent Film Awards: Best Sound and Best Documentary.

"This award will really help the film in its intention to make the lives and experiences of non-speaking autistic people more visible," says director Jerry Rothwell, who accepted the award for Best Documentary in virtual ceremony on Thursday.

Based on the bestselling book by Naoki Higashida, the film blends Higashida’s revelatory insights into autism, written when he was just 13, with intimate portraits of five remarkable young people. With immersive sound design and 360 degree location recording THE REASON I JUMP takes the audience into the world of intense sensory experience that Higashida describes.

THE REASON I JUMP has previously been recognised with IDA nominations for Best Documentary and Best Director (Jerry Rothwell), a Critic’s Choice nomination for Best Cinematography (Ruben Woodin-Dechamps) and a Cinema Eye Honors nomination for Best Original Score (Nainita Desai).

Nominations and winners for the 23rd BIFAs have been chosen by BIFA voters over the course of three rounds of viewing, discussion and voting and are presented in two virtual ceremonies.

THE REASON I JUMP is due for theatrical release across the UK and Ireland with Picturehouse Entertainment in later this year.
