Director Alex Parkinson receives the award for Best Documentary on his doorstep

Three British Independent Film Award Nominations for THE REASON I JUMP

We are excited to share that THE REASON I JUMP has been nominated for three BIFA Awards. With nominations in the categories Best Documentary, Best Music, and Best Sound, Jerry Rothwell’s immersive film leads the list of nominated documentary films in this year’s ceremony.

Based on the bestselling book by Naoki Higashida, THE REASON I JUMP is a cinematic exploration of neurodiversity through the experiences of nonspeaking autistic people from around the world. The film blends Higashida’s revelatory insights into autism, written when he was just 13, with intimate portraits of five remarkable young people. It opens a window into an intense and overwhelming, but often joyful, sensory universe.

Among the film’s previous accolades are the Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival, Audience and Impact Awards at Vancouver International Film, as well as the Maysles Brother’s Award for Best Documentary at Denver International Film Festival.

Huge congratulations to Director Jerry Rothwell; Producers Jeremy Dear, Stevie Lee, Al Morrow; Composer Nainita Desai, Sound Team Ben Baird, Nick Ryan, Sara Lima; and all involved.

The winners will be announced early February 2021. See all BIFA nominations here

THE REASON I JUMP is premiering in US cinemas on 8 January with Kino Lorber and is set for its theatrical release in the UK and Ireland early 2021 by Picturehouse Entertainment.
